JOVENS COM UMA MISSAO – MACAPA – YOUTH WITH A MISSION

Dear Friends and Supporters around the globe!

We are writing once again to inform you shortly of the most recent news here in YWAM Macapa. We are mailing later to you our yearly rapport 2002, giving you an overview about the main activities here in the social area.

Social Ministries

The campaign to raise finances to complete the construction and equip the EL Shaddai rehabilitation centre is still running. Only a part of the amount has been raised and already used on finishing bathrooms. A Danish University dentristry lecturer, Birthe Melsen has been doing an amazing effort  to raise funds within Brazil.

Missionary Johan Lukasse from Belo Horizonte, responsible for Mercy Ministries here in Brazil, is with us here this first week of April and a  breakfast at El Shaddai together with local pastors is among the activities on the agenda during the days here, apart from teaching at nights for staff and volunteers etc.

At Infraero the construction has advanced too at the community centre Ararate, and the school support program Adonai is taking place in a new environment. The building still needs doors and windows, the floor needs to be  finished and more bathrooms constructed. Also a craft and sewing course for mothers are planned to start soon there, as well as a study library for local children and youth is planned to function as a local resource centre in the slum.

Training and Evangelism

This year in a special way, we feel for focusing more on training. Also we are challenged in interaction as much as possible with local churches.

A drama workshop of one week happened here in Macapa in February with participants from different churches. Another was run the week after in Santana. A young couple  from the drama group Ceifa of YWAM in Belo Horizonte did dedicate their time to teach and inspire to creativity and blessed the participants.

The basic training courses for Christian social educators is a tool to inspire, train and pass on social vision to local evangelical churches. The course ran successfully with 20 participants in Santana, and now in April the course is happening in a church here in Macapa.

The idea is in near future to start a small office of the mission in  the neighbour town of Santana too. A town of around 80.000 people, 20 km from Macapa.

A night bible course ENVIA is running 3 nights a week in the Shalom house  with around 12 students.

The Circus Vitoria impact in January to Mazagao and Mazagao Velha in the interior of the state did impact many lives. More than 300 kids gave their lives to Jesus, and many local Christians did participate in the courses and seminars offered. Another impact is planned to happen in July – going to Porto Grande and Ferreira Gomes – also in the interior of the Amapa State.

During the carnival we did have a Kings Kids Campaign, and also we did do an evangelistic impact during the carnival at nights with drama presentations etc. The carnival provided an excellent opportunity to encounter many people and share the gospel with them.

A Kings Kids group with more than 20 participants from different churches, led by staff from YWAM, is meeting up for Bible Study and training choreographies and doing presentations all through the year.

The YWAM-team in Macapa

We did celebrate our 8 years anniversary of the work here in Macapa the 15th of February. We really do have many reasons of thankfulness in our hearts, thinking back on, what has happened, Glory to God!

Two staff members Nora and Suzi are suffering from severe back problems, so they are following programs of treatment and limited in some ways.

Two foreign nurses are now in Macapa working with YWAM, but the focus for them is in the beginning language

studies and  gaining of cultural insight. Two foreign male volunteers are coming along to spend some weeks

      here  too the coming months.

Please pray for:
-      Gods sovereign work in the lives of children in the programs of YWAM here in Macapa  and their families.

-          More long-term workers for the mission            - Discernment, wisdom and  strength for  local leadership

-          The needed funds to finish completely the El Shaddai home  - Needed funds also to finish Com. Center Ararate

-          For projection and health of staff and volunteers and a

-           smoothly adaptation process for new people arriving

.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very blessed Easter Season. He is risen! Halleluja!
